Community Outreach Programs

LHI continues to expand its ability to provide outreach and case management to the Greater Lowell community. The outreach workers at LHI provide prevention education around HIV, Hep C, and other STI’s, drug and alcohol use, misuse and abuse, and overdose. Additionally, workers aim to “meet people where they are at” in order to have the most success at engagement. Workers provide individuals with resources needed in order to access treatment for addiction and related disorders at whatever level is needed.

Community Opioid Outreach Program (CO-OP)

LHI’s CO-OP is a partnership between Lowell House, Lowell Police, Lowell Fire, & Lowell Health Departments. The CO-OP team provides outreach and follow-up visits to opioid overdose victims and their families in the city of Lowell, connecting them to the necessary level of treatment and services to attain sobriety along their path toward recovery from addiction. The CO-OP team also provides general outreach to the homeless community in Lowell and assists them in accessing treatment and services needed.

Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Support Initiative (CARSI)

Lowell House’s Outreach Team (LHOT)- Lowell House, in partnership with the Lowell Health Department and Trinity EMS, was awarded the First Responders-Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Support Services Act Grant SAMHSA grant to support, expand, and enhance existing programs for first responders and recovery support workers to train, carry, and distribute Naloxone. Lowell House employs an Outreach Registered Nurse and a bilingual Harm Reduction navigator. The team’s objective is to conduct street outreach, visit homeless encampments, and assist with stage-appropriate referrals for treatment, acute wound care, and health education. This partnership has allowed us to create a first-in-the-state naloxone leave-behind program for Trinity EMS to have the ability to distribute Narcan at substance use related incidents.

Project North

Lowell House was awarded a contract with the Trial Court of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The goal of the project is to reduce the impact of opioids, stimulants, and other substances on individuals and communities in the Commonwealth. These funds will support engagement, system navigation support, and short-term care management services for court-involved persons dealing with substance use disorders. Lowell House employs two Recovery Support Navigators based out of the Lowell and Lawrence Court House. The navigator’s objective is to connect with individuals who are court-involved and assist with substance use related needs, such as scholarship to sober living, transportation to detox, or referrals to client-identified resources.
