First Women’s Co-Occurring Enhanced Residential Rehabilitation Program Opened in Northeastern Massachusetts

Lowell, MA, January 23, 2024 – Lowell House has officially opened its newest program Solstice House. Solstice House is the first women’s co-occurring enhanced residential rehabilitation program in northeastern Massachusetts.

The new program, located in Reading MA, is based on Lowell House’s current residential program, Tower Hill, that focuses on men with a co-occurring diagnosis. A co-occurring diagnosis is given to someone who is going through substance use disorder and another moderate to severe mental illness, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, etc. Solstice House is a 16-bed program designed to meet the unique and often unmet needs of these female adults.

“We are thrilled to be able to open this new facility and expand the support services that we offer to individuals going through recovery,” said Michael Reinke, CEO Lowell House Inc. “By opening this facility in Reading we are able to increase our services to meet the needs of women going through a co-occurring diagnosis, and continue to expand our services to the greater Merrimack Valley Region.”

Solstice House offers appropriate psychiatric and substance use treatment services, with an emphasis on integrated pharmacotherapy for mental health and addiction, inclusive of medication evaluation, monitoring, and reconciliation, as well as induction on medication-assisted treatment (MAT) when appropriate. The program also offers access to a comprehensive array of healthcare services to address the uniquely complex medical needs of individuals with co-occurring substance use disorders and mental health disorders. Daily programming is tailored to meet the needs of this unique population and includes individual and group therapy; peer support; communal meals, and chores; educational, vocational, and public benefits assistance.
